AOD-9604 (CAS 221231-10-3) is a synthetic 16-residue peptide derived from the C-terminal region of human growth hormone (hGH). It is supplied for laboratory and analytical research use only.

Research background

AOD-9604 corresponds to hGH residues 177–191 with an added N-terminal tyrosine, and is also listed as Tyr-hGH Fragment 177-191. Because it reproduces only a short segment of the 191-residue parent protein, it has been used as a tool compound for studying that C-terminal region in isolation from the rest of the molecule.

Published preclinical work has examined AOD-9604 in rodent models of lipid metabolism, including studies of beta-3 adrenergic receptor expression in adipose tissue and comparisons with full-length hGH in wild-type and receptor-knockout mice (Heffernan et al., Endocrinology, 2001; Ng et al., Hormone Research, 2000). Other studies have looked at the fragment in a rabbit cartilage model (Kwon and Park, Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science, 2015) and as a component of a nanoparticle delivery system in a breast cancer cell line (Habibullah et al., Drug Design, Development and Therapy, 2022). These findings are specific to the models and conditions used in each study. For a fuller summary of the literature and its limitations, see AOD-9604: A Research Overview of the hGH Fragment.

Frequently asked questions

What is AOD-9604?

AOD-9604 is a synthetic 16-residue peptide derived from the C-terminal region of human growth hormone (residues 177–191, with an added N-terminal tyrosine), also listed as Tyr-hGH Fragment 177-191. It is used in laboratory research on the lipolytic domain of hGH. Our overview AOD-9604: A Research Overview of the hGH Fragment covers its structure and the published literature.

How is AOD-9604 different from full-length growth hormone?

Full-length hGH is a 191-residue protein with growth-promoting, anabolic and metabolic regions. AOD-9604 reproduces only a short C-terminal fragment, which is why researchers use it to study that region in isolation from the rest of the molecule.

What vial sizes are available?

AOD-9604 is available in 5mg and 10mg vials of lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder. Each vial is labelled with its batch number.

How is purity verified?

Every batch is tested by an independent third-party lab using HPLC-MS (high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry), which confirms identity, quantity and purity. The expected molecular weight for AOD-9604 is approximately 1,815 g/mol. The matching Certificate of Analysis for each batch is published on our Lab Results page.

How should it be stored and reconstituted?

Lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptide is stable when kept sealed, cold and protected from light. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, keep the vial refrigerated and use within the window appropriate to your protocol. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall of the vial and let the powder dissolve on its own. Do not shake. Swirl gently if needed. The volume you add determines the final concentration, so record it with the batch number. Full walkthrough: How to Reconstitute Lyophilised Peptides.

How does shipping work?

Orders are packed in sealed, tamper-evident vials. See our shipping policy for processing times and carriers. Lyophilised peptides do not require cold-chain shipping.

Is this for human use?

No. Everything we sell is supplied strictly for laboratory and analytical research. It is not a drug, supplement or therapeutic product and is not for human or veterinary use.
