Bacteriostatic Water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative, supplied as a laboratory reconstitution supply.

About this product

The benzyl alcohol content inhibits bacterial growth, which is why bacteriostatic water is the standard laboratory diluent for reconstituting lyophilised compounds where a vial will be accessed more than once. This distinguishes it from sterile water for injection, which contains no preservative and is intended for single use.
